Volunteer

Volunteering is a fantastic way to get involved at Haddo. We need volunteers for a range of roles, from room stewards in the House to helping monitor wildlife in the park. No experience necessary just enthusiasm and commitment.

If you’re a student or out of work, we can provide records of volunteering hours, training and references. All volunteers will be provided with any equipment they need and can claim back their travel expenses. Volunteers can also get discounts and priority booking on events in the park.

Look through our volunteering opportunities and if anything catches your eye, get in touch and let us know. No previous experience is necessary and we’ll provide full training for all our volunteering roles. Email haddo@visithaddo.com

Haddo House Room Stewards and Guides

We're looking for people to join our team of house guides and room stewards. You'll spend your time inside Haddo House greeting visitors, showing them the hidden treasures of the house and giving them information about the family, the house and its history. You can also help with more formal group tours and guiding if you want.

Ideal if you already have an interest in Scottish and local history and heritage but you'll be fully trained and given all the information you need.

Guides are organised on a rota so it's helpful if you can commit to a regular time every week/fortnight/month but we're also happy to hear from volunteers who can fill in at short notice or cover occasional busy days.

Gardeners

Haddo is home to beautiful, formal terrace gardens with flower beds, lawns, a rose garden and herbaceous borders. Our gardening volunteers will help with a range of tasks in and around the garden including planting, propagation, grass cutting, path maintenance and helping to create new formal beds and borders.

Ideal for anyone who is relatively physically fit and happy to be outdoors for the day. Some gardening experience is helpful but not essential. There is some volunteering available in the garden all year round but volunteers are primarily needed during the spring/summer.

Wildlife Surveys and Monitoring

We're looking for volunteers to help us maintain our wildlife records and to help keep our bird and red squirrel feeding areas and hides clean and maintained.

This would be ideal for a regular visitor/walker with good basic wildlife ID skills who could complete a park survey on a weekly or fortnightly basis, recording bird numbers, red squirrel and mammal sightings, first flowering dates for wild flowers etc.

This is also a great opportunity if you're interested in wildlife and just starting out learning to identify common birds, flowers, fungi etc as we can give you lots of training and advice and you'll get to practise your developing skills on a regular basis.

Events Staff

We have a very full programme of events at Haddo from classical concerts to guided wildlife walks. We're always looking for volunteers who can help out at events, doing anything and everything from making posters, greeting visitors, manning a reception desk, dressing up as witches and wizards for Halloween or helping out with car parking.

This is ideal for students who want to go into event management and want practical experience or anyone who wants to get involved at Haddo but can't commit to a regular date each week.

Haddo Arts Festival

The Haddo Arts Festival takes place every October, featuring classical music, opera, comedy, drama and dance. We're always looking for volunteers to help out on event nights. Volunteers currently help as bar staff, fire wardens, ticket desk, exhibition organisers, technical and behind the scenes help and artists liaison.

An interest in the arts and music would be nice but not essential and you'll be given all the training you need for each role. Fire wardens and stewards also get to watch some amazing performances for free!

We're also happy to talk to anyone who would like to be involved in the background organisation of the Arts Festival helping to produce the programme, run promotions, website and social media, source sponsors and funding and to help with booking artists. We would especially be very interested to hear from anyone familiar with book keeping and accounts or students wishing to gain events management experience.

Haddo Arts Festival Committee meetings are usually held in the evenings at Haddo approximately once a month.

Corporate Volunteering and Work Parties

We have some opportunities available for corporate groups and businesses who have a corporate community investment programme or similar, or who just want a very different kind of away day or team building day out.

Volunteer opportunities will very much depend on the size of your group and the time of year, but previous groups have helped to dig out and re-line a wildlife pond, renovate our new community rooms and do large scale habitat management in the country park. We can also combine a half day volunteering with a guided house tour or guided wildlife walk. We can provide catering during the day and a meeting room.

Please contact us for more information.
