We're just about ready for a huge weekend coming up at Haddo this Easter.
As you've probably noticed we're planning to be very busy with two egg hunts on over the Easter weekend.
The traditional Haddo Egg Hunt for the painted wooden eggs will be on SUNDAY ONLY as usual. As we're always very busy this day entry is by pre-booked car park pass only. Passes are available online at our online box office and will be on sale until Sunday morning.
The NTS/Cadbury Easter Trail (a quiz trail round the gardens of the house with a prize at the end) runs from Friday to Monday, and costs £3 per child.
You can find out full details including opening times on our events page.
If you fancy a quieter visit to the park, then we can definitely recommend coming early on a weekday (before about 10am) and having a wander down the Scots Mile and around the lake
The open areas around the lime avenue are a carpet of white Wood Anemones and pinky-lilac Cuckoo Flower, amongst the last of the daffodils. If you look closely on the banking around the terrace gardens you might see the last of the Snakes Head Fritillary as well.
Further down the Scots Mile, Red Squirrels are taking advantage of the quiet early mornings to get a feed, and you can usually see four or five of them in the trees around the hide or behind the playground.
At the lake you've got a good chance of seeing nesting Grey Wagtails anywhere around the shore, and there's a Dipper on the fish pass most days The first Sand Martins have arrived and you'll see them whizzing about over the lake catching insects. If you're lucky you'll be able to pick out the first Swallows of spring in the middle of the flock. If you're very lucky you might catch a fishing Osprey like one of our visitors on Sunday...
If you're visiting over Easter a reminder that Haddo House is now open for tours on Saturdays and Sundays. Tours start from 11.30am and run every hour on the half hour until 3.30pm. You can prebook by calling 01651 851440 or just drop in at the shop when you arrive. Tours are free for NTS Members
This weekend is also the Haddo House Choral & Operatic Society's performance of La Traviata on Friday and Saturday evening. This is Alice Dennis's last production with the society, there are lots of amazing soloists and it promises to be a superb show. A few tickets still available from hhcos.org.uk/

Finally, have you ever wanted to come and work here at Haddo? Then this could be your change. We're looking for a Visitor Services Officer (and soon a seasonal Visitor Services Assistant) to work from now until the end of the project dealing with visitors, running events, working with Aberdeenshire Council, the NTS and Haddo Estate to help look after the whole site.
We're also looking for a Head Gardener to take over the National Trust for Scotland terrace gardens and surrounds.
